Next Gen (Beta)

Next Gen (Beta) is the label I saw in Copilot’s picker and in Flux’s own GPT-5 announcement. Docs call it the most advanced next-generation model: streaming replies, vision on images and schematics, and the highest reasoning for novel board problems. The homepage does not pretend it is cheap. It sits at premium ACU cost.

I would switch to it when General starts hedging on an architecture that is not a textbook USB gadget — a weird sensor front-end, a power tree with too many domains, a layout question that needs the model to look at a screenshot. I would not use it to ask whether a 10k pull-up is fine on an I2C bus.

Vision here means analyzing a picture you give it, not drawing a hero render of your PCB. If you want pretty board photography, that is still a camera. If you want Copilot to look at a schematic PNG and talk about missing decoupling, this is the model Flux points at for cutting-edge work.
